It takes awhile to actually believe that you have to be taking fat in so that your body burns it. Plus fat is a more energy efficient than carbs+protein combined.
weight is such a poor measurement of fitness. Lean muscle mass is the way to go (body fat percentages).
It is good to see you active and working with your mom towards goals that are good for both of you :)
