Chicago. Slightly cheaper, has a vibrant theater community, bigger and more urban.
Or Austin. Notably cheaper, very hep, much-raved art scene, warmer year-round.

I hear Portland (Oregon) is a fun, artsy city. Great for young people. I don't have any personal experience with that, however.

Agreed. I felt really "at home" when I visited there and several people have told me that people who love Boston would also love Portland.

Because it might have Colliers come January. And yes, it is huge for theater, and the third largest media city, which means web sites galore that will need your help. Yours, and yours alone.
