Yeah, in the south, when I lived there at least, being openly and outwardly racist was just fine and dandy, as long as it was directed at non-English speaking people, or immigrants. :/

Hi - just came across your journal and saw this post and wanted to comment. I belong, sort of half heartedly, to a forum focused around a certain personality type. There are an inordinate number of young men on it who espouse really shockingly sexist; and I mean horribly, grotesquely sexist opinions. They are, for the most part, not completely stupid people - but their views of women are astonishing to me. PM me if you want the link.
