Guess I should dig up the old Youtube links, then? Here's the first part of the English-language pilot (and trust me, the first two minutes and awful US opening theme are no indication of how the series really is XD), which smashed the first two episodes into an hour-long one... I think that same user has up to episode 7, trish016 has up to ep. 17. I'm not quite sure who has past that point....
It's a trope that's been out there a long time, unfortunately. Still, it's slowly being beaten out by girls who get character development that isn't facilitated by a makeover! There's hope! (And oh god, my brain is cracked. "If Eva becomes a hero, then does that mean Jordan is a princess?!")
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR WRITING THIS! You put my feelings down to the letter, and so eloquently, too. While I don't think the idea of Eva becoming feminine is necessarily a bad thing (I mean, she's becoming a young woman, after all), that's not to say she won't become her own unique kind of woman that challenges and reevaluates what we believe to be traditionally feminine. So yeah, she might start wearing skirts and dresses, but she'd never give up wearing pants or anything! She'd be a very different sort of woman from her mother.
"If Eva becomes a hero, then does that mean Jordan is a princess?!"
No, more like a "goddess" because he actually wields power, but yes. XD
Yup. The sporty, active, energetic kind of feminine. Of course, she'll probably still wear pants or shorts when racing. Maya was crazy to wear a dress when driving!
THANK YOU. I'm relatively new to OSR fandom- but I can see what you're talking about already.
If fandom feels the need to make Eva feminine...They need to make her grow into being her own woman. Eva is not her mother, children are not their parents- people need to realize this.
But yes, I feel I should shut up before I make this reply TL;DR. Just know you hit the nail on the head with this one.
Sadly, people don't. It's in my opinion made worse by character designers (coughcoughKISHIMOTO) who draw characters' parents as older versions of them... but that's not really related.
Kishimoto- is a different TL;DR story all together. You're opinion is a nice logical one. I wish more series would explore the idea of children as individuals- as people moving from the norm their parents created.
I wish fandom would learn to draw away from the norm as well. OSR has people making Eva into a Maya clone- and that is very much DONOTWANT to me. There are other series that have fandoms that do too...
I'm not going to go Teal Deer here- I'd end up with a novel.
Indeed he is. And yeah, I really hope we see more stories doing that in the future....
I think I can beat fandoms doing that - the Expanded Universe, if viewed as canon, could be seen as Star Wars trying to make the next generation just like the first.
So do it on your journal! I want to hear your thougths on this!
You've hit the nail right on the head there, Jane. It's hard for the young fans to accept the fact that although Eva is very much like her mother, they are not the same person. Eva inherited Maya's racing talent and some of her looks, but personality wise she seems a lot more like her dad! When have we ever seen Maya losing her temper or throwing a tantrum? She always seems calm and composed, unlike her husband who's a total worrywart and later a grouchy curmudgeon.
And while Eva can be feminine, it's in a more punkish tomboy way. She wore cute pink dresses as a child, but she never wears skirts again until the last episode. Eva is the rebellious type, she wears a boy's uniform at school, low slung baggy pants, short little midriffs, and tiny miniskirts with chunky sneakers that are probably too big. She sleeps in boxers. And let's not forget the hair dye and those multi-ear piercings, which Maya never had (unless I'm totally wrong and all that pink was really dye
