Not participating in the "content strike".

PRIVATE COMPANIES CAN DO WHAT THEY WANT!

Really. The TOS itself says they're free to change it and any other feature of the site without having to tell everybody.

If you didn't read it, well, sucks to be you I guess!

Also, can somebody tell me how removing certain interests from some kind of statistical listing is censorship?

By making it harder for like-minded people to find you? Or something?

I'd post, but I can't really think of anything I feel like talking about. I figure that the people posts like this are targeted at probably won't be on until tomorrow, so it wouldn't really make a difference if I said anything about the strike.

I suppose, but half the fun I've had in finding people here came from random conversations on communities. And if I've read all the hype rightly, it's not as though we can't list those interests anymore....

Well... you could spam with cat macros or suchlike? And it's true, they won't really be back until tomorrow....

Also, uh. Did outsideinn die or something?

*nodnod* Random conversations are awesome. Or searching the more obscure interests, rather than stuff like 'Yaoi' that can link you with people who just write pairings you hate.

Too late now -- got distracted with family holidayness.

That which is not dead may eternal sleeping lie; but in those ancient eons even death may die.

. . . I mean, no, I think it's just in a slow period.

*chuckles*

Yeah, this "strike" is silly and naive for pretty much the reason ANY 24 hour strike is (example- single day gas strikes.) Finances and revenue are figured out on a monthly basis, not daily ^^;.

But hey, it makes some people feel good. So thats something. I suppose.

I guess it does. It just seems like it's not so much making them feel good as self-righteous and arrogant. And I suppose that's not really such a bad thing, but... eh, it just doesn't sit well with me.

....I was actually pretty upset about the striking people for the same reasons yesterday, so I had to talk myself into the "feeling good" angle so the urge to kill would subside.

YOU'RE MAKING IT RISE AGAIN WOMAN.

Supposedly I'm good at doing that to people. XD

I don't really see the point to it either.

A 24-hour strike isn't going to do anything in terms of revenue for the company long term. If anything it's just a small blip on their radar. If people really wanted to do anything the strike would have to be a month or longer.

I would be typing more but they giant blinky text in your post is distracting me....Seriously it's rather hypnotizing...

Or, better yet, they could just leave outright!

Oh, you and your love of blinkytext. XD Already had the teeth yanked?

At absolute most, a few thousand people will participate in this thing, and more than likely less than that. Because a thousand people out of a user base of millions protesting will definitely teach LJ execs a lesson! Or it could cause them to do something really radical, like, like...not bat an eyelash.

And for the record, site content is measured on a weekly basis to begin with, I believe.

Also, I've missed you lately!

Yeah. fandom_counts only hit 36k because of RP journals; the people rioting over OMG A COMPANY TRYING TO MAKE MONEY!!1 number well below that. If anything, this is pushing me more towards wanting to get a paid account!

I'd been thinking monthly for some reason, but that means this makes even less sense. If they could pry themselves away for a week, they could possibly get real notice... but of course not.

I've missed you, too. I'm on AIM! And feeling better than I have been!

Well, I have one mostly for the icons and LJ gallery... but unless LJ completely overhauls the ability to do shit like make layouts, update, and comment, I'm not going anywhere.

And neither are the whiners who aren't ballsy enough to leave the site for a week to prove their 'points.' I find it entirely pathetic that they can only pull themselves away from Livejournal for one day to protest. I could go without LJ for a week with no problems. In fact, it's not like I'm around on a daily basis to begin with. If they really want to show LJ, they should just leave forever. Preferably.

I'm just going by what an 'anti-striker' on my friends list said, really. I'd assume weekly or monthly, but definitely not daily.

Ah, really? Well, I'm fixing to eat supper now, actually...but I should be on tonight, in about an hour or so, if you're still around.

Yes, the icons make it worth it! (And oh my god that icon is awesome. ♥) I don't believe they plan on changing up the basic coding and site layout - seriously, it'd make the entire Russian blogosphere riot - so you've got nothing to worry about.

I really wish they would actually go through with the threats to move it all to InsaneJournal. Good god, the main D. Gray comms might actually have intelligent discussions again! But you're right, they won't. They're unable to be away from the part of the 'net they think of as home.

Yeah, no company does daily content checks. It'd cost too much.

I'll be around, don't worry!
