My worldview is that of an optimistic nihilist. That's my mean, median, and modal worldview --though there are others ( Read more... )

What an eloquent, beautiful, wise - and timely! - post. I am blown away by your insights, all of which I struggle with on a daily basis.

At the moment, heaven for me is listening to beautiful music while my beautiful son wails in the next room because he can't watch his wrestling program. ;)

Interestingly, what he's crying is sort of perfect for your entry here: "I DON'T WANT TO MISS IT!!!" ;)

I'd like permission to link to this post as well, if you don't mind. <3

You've put words to something I've been feeling for a long time.

Awesome post! I have been learning that we are the creators of our own reality. We allow things to go 'bad' or 'good' each day and decide which we want to concentrate on. Some people like to concentrate on the feeling of frustration during their commute, others like to concentrate that it gives them time to sip their coffee and listen to music.

Feeling bad about your day is just as much a choice as feeling good about your day and your version - remembering heaven, is awesome. Thanks for sharing!

you're welcome! Glad it spoke to you.

about choice though... I vacillate between notions of what I think free will is in a universe which (as far as I can tell) is a combination of randomness and deterministic reactions. I do know that it's sometimes difficult to the point of impossible to choose happiness, and I'm also trying to be ok with that.

Ironically, I've been having a hell of a time trying to quell my depressive negativity this morning. :/ sigh... Still I am doing better than if I didn't keep choosing to stave back that negativity. It's tiring though... (*whine*)

I know. I can say 'happiness is a choice' a lot easier than I can live it ( ... )

I'm a buddhist (western zen flavored) atheist.

And yeah, I've been wondering about the need for emotional cyclicity and... still not sure how that "ought to" work out.
