lesson one: Confusion

It wasn't until I started going to college that I realized that college is nothing more than a business. The whole idea of getting a degree is a bunch of bullshit. You only need a degree in order to get a better job and more money. College is just a way to buy a better position in life, not a way to become more educated and well rounded. Maybe ( Read more... )

Not neccesarily elitist djsven December 7 2004, 17:33:51 UTC
I don't think it's elitist to find corruption in the school system. Of course it's corrupt. Of course it's meant to pass of scoietal norms as truth onto you.

I think things will change once you finish your required courses. Once you can concentrate on something you really like, my guess is that you'll like college more.

I'd just call you a paranoid, muck-rakiing bitch.

There was a time in life where you didn't need a college degree to get where you wanted it life.
Just so long as you had a few years of schooling, you could do almost anything. I mean, look at our parents! 75% of them didn't attend college, and they are teachers, lawyers, presidents!
College is four years of our time and money spent so we can get a dinky little piece of paper saying we were there. However, if you find yourself studying a field you love and will work in, then it's not so bad.
I was undeclared last year, and yes, it blows.
Once you declare a major (make sure it's something you love), you'll find that college isn't SO bad. I'm a Digital Media major, and I'm finding that more and more of my classes kick ass (lots of art, animation, web design, and other cool classes).
Once you declare your major, things will get better dear x3

If you think you know the material, you don't have to take the class!! It is a little known secret that none of hte advisors want to tell you becasue if they do, they explode or something. In fact, I think most of the professors don't even know about this.

There is a test called CLEP. Its stands for College Level E_________ P_________. I don't know what the last two words are. Kutztown offers the CLEP in a variety of subjects. You have to pay like $65 per test, and then you take it whenever you are ready, and its a 2 hour long test. They are 100 questions each. If you score a 51 or higher, you are given full credit for the course - No quesitons asked.

I mean, WTF????? Why didn't they tell me about this, like LAST YEAR??? But yeah, so if next semster, if they are making you take any class that you feel you know everything, take the CLEP, pass it, and drop the course. Less classwork, more free time for Sex, and maybe you can take some other class that you are actually interested in.

Plooo.

dude...what's wrong with being an elitist? etoile_noir December 7 2004, 21:49:44 UTC
being an elitist is one of the better parts of life. when you know that you are better than other people or at least hold a piece of knowledge uncommon in common people, it's such a great feeling. it's awesome. i went to the hookah lounge the other day and i was surrounded by elitism. after a little too much peach hookah smoking, we discovered the meaning of life and the origin of the universe. it might all be bullshit, but who cares? college is definitely a business. they will not do anything unless it makes them money. in fact, the reason it's so hard to get into college is because they want to make sure the people they accept are good enough students to not fail out so they can get 4 - 5 years of tuition out of them. if i were you, i would look into that CLEP thing, everyone needs more time for sex.

Nothings wrong with being an elitist. I just didn't get a sense of elitist from Jenn's post. If she had said something more like:

"All the fuckers around here are idiots, morons and Republicans. They like sports, they think college is awesome, they use too much hair gel, they shop at Abercrombie and Fitch and they vote Republican. ALl of them can suck my dick, because I'm fucking awesome, dammit."

then I would've gotten a larger sense of elitism.

Or maybe I just skipped over the whole "I already know everything" deal.
