Red Hats Rule!

I am the Founding Queen Mother of The Flaming Roses chapter of The Red Hat Society. For the last four years, we have set about having fun and enjoying life with other females of a certain age.

We started out just having teas and eating lunches. Last summer we ventured out and decided to participate in a local parade. While we got wet in a sudden storm, we had a blast. We were then invited to participate in the local Christmas parade. We came across a trailer that we decorated for a small float and once again, had a ball!

This year we decided to march (actually ride would be more appropriate) in the same two parades again. Once again we found a trailer to use and the summer parade was themed as a Summer Garden Tea Party. We had fake trees and flowers, lights, a silver tea service and lots of balloons and bubbles. The parade committee saw fit to award us with “Best Appearing Float” as well as “Best Non-Fire Department Vehicle” for a vintage Chevy convertible that was part of the line-up. We were awarded two trophies and a check for $50.00.

For the Christmas Parade, we did “Christmas Remembered”. This time we had a longer trailer than before. It will be our official parade float as it belongs to the husband of one of our members. We had a Red Hat Christmas tree in the front, with a fake fireplace. Several of the ladies did Victorian outfits and they sat at the front stringing fake popcorn. At the back of the float we had a red aluminum tree with purple ornaments. All around the outside was skirting in small red and white stripes and many different kinds of stockings. It was cute, but I did not think it was all that great. Well, the parade committee disagreed and awarded us First Place in the Non-Profit Float category. We had to wait almost three weeks, but the prize was a lovely Blue Ribbon (that looks really good on the trophy from the summer parade) and a check for $100.00.

So we are now really fired up for next year’s parades! We need to keep this streak running. Stay tuned!!!
