If human civilization still exists in 300 years, I will be VERY surprised.

Actually, I'll be dead.

I had a conversation with a friend of mine a couple of weeks ago. The conversation started by the question, "If you could choose the circumstances, how would you choose to die?" Morbid topic, I know, but the intention was lighthearted. She chose something I somewhat expected: to die in her sleep. Most people I ask this question pick this scenario. I guess it makes sense to most people. I, on the other hand, kind of want to die a very painful death. (And before I continue, let me reiterate that as disrespectful or naive as this may sound, it is a hypothetical situation. This is assuming that you are only controlling the WAY that you die, not when.)

Consider this. If you're going to die anyway, wouldn't you want to experience something you never have and never will be able to experience again? Why not get eaten by a shark, shot in the stomach, or drawn and quartered? You're never going to know what that would feel like. Might as well, right?

When I expressed this to my friend, all I received was a disdainful glance and a change of topic.
