I was walking back to our office today after the Rittenhouse Square market, with No Parking signs under one arm and my favorite canvas bag filled with produce in the other.[1] I was crossing Walnut St. and waved at an acquaintance from the Farmstand who was biking by. Well, to be honest I'm not sure that I've ever cooked rutabagas before. I prefer parsnips and celeriac (and especially hakurei turnips, although those aren't storage vegetables) in the 'root vegetable' category. I would consider boiling & mashing some with the yummy new potatoes out now. Or roasting. If I had the time, I might make soup and freeze it. Or something else the internet suggests, that I haven't thought of yet. :)

Root veggie roast, with parsnips and turnips and carrots and maybe yams. Add marjoram and an apple and broth to that and make it soup. Optional onion/garlic. I wish I had a third thing for compositional points. ;-)

Certainly in the winter. :) But now I'm investigating creative ways to use roots that don't involve roasting...
