On the eve of staff break...

I intend to write a post about how life here at the Zen Center started easing in the second week, as well as the intensive, painful, silent sesshin weekend, but while I've been pondering how to begin that post, I want to capture this moment, this evening at the beginning of the 2-week staff summer break. It's astounding to me how relaxing it feels to start settling, and I'm mildly boggled to imagine that in another month I might look back and notice how much more I'm settled. Our expectations are so bizarre, and ultimately problematic!

I have a favorite book that is partly about learning to sit still. It is called Lens of the World, by R.A. MacAvoy.

Something there sounds familiar to me, although I don't remember ever examining any book by that author... Anyway, that sounds like a book I should find & read during my time here, light reading for free time. Although sometimes people say the more one reads, the harder it is to quiet one's mind, I still have a reading list here. :)
