Adventures in sparkly *and* Rainbow polishes . . . including my first attempt at water-marbled nails

Nov 16, 2011 23:35

Sadly, the sparkles and rainbows didn't happen in the same manicures

So, since it's the holiday season, new nail polishes are coming out like you wouldn't believe, and an ungodly amount of them are sparkly . . . and since I joined the sparkly rainbow boyband train, I generally fail at resisting sparkles.

My wallet hates me right now.

But . . . SPARKLY! . . . and RAINBOWS!!!! )

clearly i need more sleep, nail polish

Those are all certainly very shiny and colorful. XD And I adore your Alot mug - for Alot of coffee? or Alot of tea? ^^ The marbling looks pretty cool, I remember doing that with paint when I was a kid to get patterns on paper craft things.

Alot of hot cocoa! Mostly Alot of tea ^_^

The thing I really want to try sometime with the marbling is to do muted cool colors and try to emulate the book page paper marbling effect. I loved it when I found books that had those kinds of pages when I was younger. So I want to see if it can be imitated ^_^v

I have a top coat rec for you! I use Sally Hanson's red-bottled insta-dri, which coats really thick and dries wonderfully quick and smooth and lasts for ages. Or at least, much longer than they go without. I also use Orly's Bonder as a base coat, which is all sorts of magical and I will never not use it.

Except I have no idea where either of them are right now, which is distressing. D:

Ooooh! I should try that~! I have a ton of Seche Vite, but there are some polishes that don't like it and shrink a bit at the tips when I use it . . . I've seen it before, too. I'll have to pick some up the next time I'm at the pharmacy or Target!

I've never used one of the bonding base coats, though I bought CND Stickey on a rec. I should dig it out and try it, and will keep an eye out for the Orly. Generally, I use the strengthening base coats because my nails have always been weak and peely.

But recently, I started taking collagen and suddenly, they're much stronger, longer and grow faster (I sound like an ad ^^;), and my hair grows faster! Though that second part is kind of a pain since I have fairly short hair, so fast growing=more trips to the stylist :/ Or not, so I just look ragged for months until I give in just before the new semester ^^; 3 haircuts a year doesn't make sense with short hair :P

I hope you find your lost polishes!

You inspired me to try the water marbling. SOOO not pretty for the first time attempt, but SUPER FUN.

Have you heard of this:

OK, so this is embarrassingly late, but those newspaper nails are FABULOUS! Might be awesome beginning of the semester nails!

And I'd love to see pics of your nail marbling sometime! What colors did you pick for your first attempt?

Holy crap I have to bookmark your post for ideas. I'm a relatively recent polish junkie, so I'm always on the lookout for new things. That tie-dyed thing is EPIC and it actually looks pretty straightforward. And how stupid am I that Arashi nails never even occured to me! I also have the professionalism dissonance- I work in an office. But what the hell, I've come in with blue nails, I can do that too.

My friends will think I've gone crazy, what with the recent obsession with hair henna and weird clothes and now TIE-DYED NAILS. I think my inner artist is rebelling at being an office person.

That icon just made me laugh out loud! flange5 December 17 2011, 00:44:01 UTC
I'm glad you like it! The marbling isn't hard, exactly; you just need to be really quick so the polish doesn't dry before you get it all ready! There's a version of dry water marbling that should be much less messy! And also less wasteful of polish! I really want to try it sometime!!

I was just thinking that a frosty white, blue and silver might be nice for winter nails! And forthcoming holidays!

And you can tipsy-comment here anytime ^_^v

Also the creeping Aiba one is useful way more often than it should be ^_^;;;

Actually when I got this comment I'd already given it a try, and I'm now on try #2- good stuff!

I did it with a series of purples, because 90% of my polishes are on the cool end of the spectrum. I just have an aversion to pinks, or something... Anyway, I have this silver glitter that has really-super-fine flakes, and if you put in a few drops every now and then it spreads through the entire design and gives it an extra oomph of sparkle. And from this entry I can tell you're as weak to sparkles as I am 8D

/off topic, but was it you that offered a Christmas card exchange and then I forgot to pm my address? Or was it someone else? If so please ignore this appendix.

SO SO LATE! i'm so sorry; I got this in the midst of grading, then leaving for the holidays, returning and prepping and it's a terrible excuse, but the truth >_< I DO need your address! At least if you want a late late New Years' card! feel free to PM me!

that glitter sounds really awesome! Do you happen to know the brand? Because I would totally check that out!
