Apologizing is an essential part of a connected relationship and sometimes a simple “I’m sorry” is enough.
But it can be useful to understand that the words and momentary experience of “apologizing” is usually just one part of a bigger process…a repair, especially when whatever created the rupture had a significant emotional impact.

Often, I find 'sorry' is either a cop-out, or, you know, trying to get out of a dangerous situation quickly.
