So, I was rudely awoken this morning by my boss calling to say my car had been broken into. He'd pulled in to park next to me (I'd parked in a car park near work overnight) and two scruffy-looking (probably homeless) guys ran away from the car. Glad that it looks like its going to work out (woo for insurance-footed car cleaning!). Somebody broke into my car last fall, but seeing as all I had were little bits of paper in my center console and Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars on cassette all they walked away with was frustration. I wouldn't have even known they'd broken in if they hadn't moved my driver's seat all the way forward and left behind a Sprite bottle.

It was weird, however, when I found the message he'd scrawled in Japanese on my rear-view mirror with his finger several months later when the weather got cold enough to fog up and show the finger-marks. No idea what it says, probably some death threat because I don't keep CDs in the car.

Now that's some good karma. I don't think it's wrong to feel sorry for the desparate, but it's also wrong if you don't feel a bit smug with yourself.
