i whole-heartedly agree with you. I've always thought that it was such a brain washing tool even as a kid and refused to take part in it, as well as the prayers we had to say in catholic school... haha

but i agree that having kids mindlessly chant this every day isn't a way of inducing patriotism in the US' citizens, but more of a brainwashing to be complacent towards our country, its leaders, and its actions. look at hitler, he had children recite anti-semetic propoganda every day in class, and it did its job well.

and i know this was true at my school, you didn't have to say the pledge of allegiance if you didn't want to. but you were forced to stand. i think it is more obedience training with that than anything else, even though they say it is out of respect for those who die. it's good that they start to guilt trip kids early on in life.

its funny, in private school in sixth grade i clearly remember a few of us would never say under god. it was ruff with the nuns but we didnt fell it was right, its good to see something like this years later.
