Ooh, it stings.
But there's something about Mello, he knows; he knows well -- something about the faint tinge of pink at his right cheekbone when Matt tilts his grin just right, something with the way he sighs when he's tired, something in the fact that he navigates the hopeless web of cords and cables in bare feet. There's something, there are lots of somethings -- Mello... feels safe.
Mello feels.
So Matt kind of smiles to himself, every time a strident order sends him skipping down to the convenience store for more chocolate and more caffeine, because he knows that, in some ways, he has won.
And if he tilts his grin just right, well... the victor shares the spoils.

Um… for some complete randomness pairing variety, because I like rarepairs (and popular pairs, and all pairs ♥)… maybe Mikami/Misa? And “stars”? If anyone feels like it. :)

He sees her on the television first.
His television is for news, and he mutes the commercials, but he sees her as he glances up from the third readthrough of his notes -- aiming for the clock, but he sees her.
She is advertising some glossy-pinky-glitter product, but she transcends it somehow, because she internalizes all the earnest vibrancy they're shunting into a package and makes it real.
She winks a blue eye and whispers words he would not have heard if the sound was on, and she blows a kiss and smiles. She is bright, and beautiful, and vividly alive.
She is everything he is not.
It drops right into his lap, and he catches himself thinking that maybe there is Someone up there -- no. Of course not. It's just that no one else in the whole building wanted to take this halfwit starlet's contractual problems onto their drastically important shoulders, so it falls to him ( ... )

I love the idea of her putting spontaneity into his life, and of him seeing her intelligence, and of her standing up for others. It’s adorable and lovely and sweet, and you’ve totally made me ship this; I love the image. :)

Deftly L backhanded his teacup. Almost sludgy with sugar, the brown liquid pooled on the desktop, getting dangerously close to the nearest keyboard.
"Oops," L said innocently.
"I guess we'll have to go get some paper towels, Ryuzaki," Light suggested, equally guileless.
"Very sorry for the trouble, Light-kun," L replied.
One minute and twenty seconds later, Light had L pressed up against the wall of the supply closet and was kissing eagerly at his throat. L chuckled softly, vibrations rippling to Light's lips, and tugged impatiently at the buttons of Light's shirt.
"Tell me, Light-kun," he murmured. "How long do you think it takes the average person to fetch a roll of paper towels?"
"At least three years," Light answered, sliding his hands beneath the hem of L's shirt to run them up the cool contours of the man's sides.
The door opened.
NOT AS PLANNED!Light spun, presumably bearing a startling resemblance to a deer caught in a pair of overzealous headlights, and found ( ... )
