Shiraishi is a perfectionist. Anything he does he wants to do as flawlessly as possible. If he fails in something, he's not going to stop trying until he can master it or at least do it so he doesn't fail with it. He has a reputation of being flawless in tennis and he doesn't want it to be just about that. He has the brains and the skills to be "perfect" and he's not afraid of trying to achieve it. While knowing perfection is an impossible goal, he still pursues it with a determination. The higher the goal, the more inspired he is.
Due to wanting to succeed in mostly everything, Shiraishi is quite serious and mature for his age. Many people thing that he's already and adult, or that he "has lived his childhood too soon". Shiraishi himself thinks that while he does feel the need to be an adult, he also knows how to have fun. It's just that his fun isn't usually what people would usually think of as fun. While others run off to arcade, he enjoys walks around the nature - while some play video games inside he does yoga. Of course he enjoys spending time with his friends and they bring out the more silly side of him... even if sometimes some people around him tend to make him even more serious than he already is.
On the outside Shiraishi also seems quite happy and relaxed, even if it has a hint of seriousness in it. He doesn't want to spread bad vibes around him, so he seems quite a ray of sunshine, even if in his mind he might be thinking about not so wonderful thoughts. He also hides feelings like worry behind his mask... unless there's really something to worry about. Most of the time he's quite afraid of showing his feelings and usually doesn't react to things as widely as some people. If he has a reason to show worry, sadness, fear or anger - he does. Just not if it's unnecessary and would make the situation worse. If he needs to, he keeps it all inside.
Shiraishi is also quite strict. When someone is misbehaving he will try to control them and make them obey. That's part of the reason he has his "poison arm", even if it only works on the most gullible types. Though part of the poisonous arm is also because he has a small devilish side, wanting to be released. That's why he sometimes chuckles at people who actually get scared over his arm... which only might make him appear even creepier.

Shiraishi is quite adaptable. If he needs to learn something new to succeed, he will do it and usually learn it quite fast. He also works hard to perfect his skills and will help others to study with him, if needed.
An advantage for him is also his perfect health. Even if he has a bandage on his arm, it doesn't mean he's injured. It's just there for mystery factor. He is very accurate of his own and friends' wellbeing.
He is also has knowledge on many poisonous plants and is quite interested in learning more of them. Of course, he's also keen on learning how to cure those poisons and the use of medical herbs, but that side isn't as good as the opposite yet.
Weaknesses:
Shiraishi's biggest fear is failing. To let himself down or to let others down is something he never wants to experience. That's why he works hard, sometimes even too hard to the point of exhausting himself. Even if he does care for his health, his fear of failing makes him forget his limit from time to time.
Sometimes he's also in disadvantage for caring about others too much - friends or enemies. If he sees someone injured (or just pretending very well) he will offer his help, even if it might cause him more trouble than good. He doesn't believe everyone or everything, but he does have tendensity of getting used because of his kindness towards others.
He also has a very bad sense of humour. Considering his school is known for its jokes and even infamous comic tennis, it's quite a weakness for the captain to not make good ones. And if you look it in a serious situation, he won't be able to ease the situation with a joke - more likely he'll be able to annoy someone with one.
