To clarify, It's strictly the operatic solo vocal style I have an issue with, I actually like much of the music around the solo material in opera. I actually adore classical music, although I haven't listened much, lately-hmm...may be time to rectify that.

Put it this way: of all the concerts I've attended over the years, and out of nearly every style imaginable of music, my all-time favorite concert was the Boston Philharmonic performing Beethoven's 9th. Nothing has ever come close, in rock, folk, or jazz to the energy and emotion that was in that performance-I was in awe.

And to think, it was a last minute decision to go, too, out of boredom, during college. Thankfully it wasn't sold out, and we managed to get "rushes" for $5 with our student IDs.
