Ah, don't fret. Things are about to start biting Caleb in the ass soon (and things will continue to blow up in Kirsten's face). I think. We'll see what happens when I start the next chapter;) Right now, I'm working on the next chapter for "Long Way...".

Heh. I haven't stayed true to the pilot yet, as far as the Camaro incident. lol. I know Trey was blatantly trying to teach Ryan how to steal a car (very poorly. lol) and that Ryan was there willingly and knew full well what was going on but I never liked that. So I keep changing it. I suppose it's a little of both. Ryan's guilt and some past rememberances (in my mind there were moments of closeness between the two within that volatile environmment. With Trey waivering between wanting to protect his a younger/smaller Ryan and his growing resentment and sense of survival)coloring his view of that. Perhaps there is some truth to what he was saying but, hell, Trey may have completely forgotten about the childhood promise and was just stealing a car. lol. I think that will be more the case when I get back to this story. I already have an idea or two coming to mind about that ( ... )

However, that doesn't negate some of the experiences they had in common that no one else could understand. There would have been times when they were both trapped and victimized. That would have necessitated some co-dependence and reliance. For any number of reasons, an older Trey would have played big brother and protected "his" brother at least when it was convenient, a shot to his own ego or pride, or when someone crossed a line he couldn't tolerate and needed a lesson. That would have been complicated, and probably as much about Trey as Ryan- with maybe a few exceptions. Ryan, as a small child in a vulnerable position, would have just seen Trey as acting on his behalf without the larger context. With no one to rely on and so senses of self-worth, any act on his part would have been undeserved and heroic in Ryan's eyes. Fun stuff ( ... )

Ryan is 15 and Trey is 19. Trey is a legal adult and is incarcerated- and should be well past his 21st birthday. Sandy has no biological or emotional connection to him whatsoever. The link is through Kirsten (and Jimmy), and those adults have to make decisions with the information they get- if and when. The other link is through Ryan, whom Sandy does have a connection to emotionally and through legal ties. If Sandy wants to continue and even nurture that relationship for Ryan's sake (and hopefully not just for Seth's), then there's much to sort out. As an adult in the potential position of caring for Ryan as more than an attorney or GAL in the court's eyes, he would be responsible for Ryan's best interests. That would include not having Ryan responsible for parenting or taking on the problems- by choice or force of habit- of other adults who have used and hurt him consistently. He needs to be someone's concern for himself, and to see that he does deserve to live, to live for his own sake, and not in the context of others, even ( ... )

Yeah, Sandy has no obligation to Trey. He is the type of man that would want to do the right thing as he sees it, in relation to Ryan and Kirsten but he may just find that there's no way he can risk his own son, as well as Ryan once he does become legally responsible for him. If his gut feeling about Trey is proven true as a result of his digging deeper there, there's no way he's going to subject Ryan or Seth to him once he finally gets out.

Valuable insights! Sandy would be putting Seth first. There's no doubt about that. If he elects to take on responsibility for Ryan and makes a commitment to him, I would hope he would value that as well. Maybe Ryan wouldn't rate with Seth as his primary concern, but, as a lawyer, Sandy would honor any legally binding agreement, particularly one he entered into with thought and care, and because of peronal motivation ( ... )
