Now where were we before we were so rudely interrupted?

Mhh. Picking up the Woxin fic. When we last saw our heroes Gou Jian's fortunes had changed for the better-- maybe-- and Fu Chai was preparing to debate politics with him-- maybe ( Read more... )

What a vicious and totally unconscious slap. Splendid.

Thank you. Gou Jian slaps faces very well except-- I note, oddly-- the one time he actually does it.

Oh wait-- did you mean Fu Chai?

I was thinking of Fu Chai in my comment, but Gou Jian's was also very good.

A perfect parting shot.

"Like a whore angling for clients." Fu Chai makes a decided gesture. "Not likely!"

An odd pause. Then Gou Jian shrugs.

I'm trying to figure out the dynamics in this exchange...

Gou Jian-- the ying character forced into a yang role, we recall?-- outlines the kind of policy that makes sense to him-- have them come to you, work through other men's talents, let the state's might grow organically, as it were. Fu Chai, manliest of manly men, rejects that 'passive' approach, and rejects it all the more offensively because he senses that Gou Jian is trying to do something of the sort to him: draw him closer, use him for his own ends that are probably detrimental to Fu Chai and Wu. Thus he lashes out at him, though of course he'd deny that he was likening Gou Jian to a prostitute ( ... )

Thanks for the explanation. Your Gou Jian articulates what Uncle Ming's could only indicate (within the constraints of the dialogue) in gesture and expression (and I have to get Moral Ed!Gou Jian out of my head as well).

All this would be so much easier if I knew what Uncle Ming's Gou Jian was actually *saying*, she mourns. Maybe I should stop using dialogue entirely and just do internal perspective.

Hmmmm *ponders* - Nice! Even if I'm not sure I understood it truly.

In my defence I *HAVE* been round our zoo (what feels like several times over) from 10-30am till 6pm and a lot of that is chasing around with a heavy bag full of water bottles and snacks! And we only just got back from dinner and there is a giant mound of that laundry youkai-zombie! *sigh* It's still lovely to come back to. ^_^ - sorry mini rant sort of exploded out of me!

I just wish it was going some where. The one thing I can't see is any kind of sex bewteen Fu Chai and Gou Jian; and they're such opposites I can't see them ending as friends either. It's starting to look like history-- Fu Chai is so impressed by Gou Jian he lets him go home; and Gou Jian responds by planning the conquest of Wu.
