Oh boys! It's such an interesting idea to shift the Supernatural universe from paranormal monsters to human monsters. I love your Sam pov and the way he looks at the world. I'm sure Dean's pov would be incredibly different. He'd see his world as "things that have to be done" instead of "things I regret". The last little snapshot of this story was also particularly wonderful. Oh boys...

And happy birthday!

Oh I'm so glad it works for you! I think Dean's a pretty unforgivable character here. Whereas John and Sam kind of have excuses, Dean is the way he is because he's been brought up like it, and kind of enjoys it. Thank you so so much for reading! :)

Huh, it's really interesting to hear your thoughts about Dean. When I read the story I got the impression that Dean was just trying to make his dad happy. That he was trying to protect Sam, and the only way he thought he could do that was to be the best mafia member he could be. If he was tough enough, scary enough, then no one would mess with his family. I thought his not caring was more of a defense mechanism, then him really not caring, and really enjoying his lifestyle.

I think it's really cool that a writer can create something and it can still be interpreted as something very different by the reader. *g*

Mmm, I'm always fascinated to hear how what I've had in my head has been translated going into someone else's!

In my head, John's reasoning is that, after Mary, he's never going to be a victim again, and he doesn't want his boys to be victims either. So he'll do what's necessary to get to the top of the pile.

And he gives Dean this concept that all that matters is family - do whatever you have to if it's for the good of the family. So Dean's kind of lacking in empathy when it comes to anyone outside of John and Sam. And yes, there is an element of being the biggest and the baddest in order to keep John and Sam safe, but the way I see it, Dean doesn't quite realise just how awful a human being he is - because he's doing it for John and Sam. It's just what you do when you love your family.

Oh goodness, I've rambled at you now! Sorry!

Oh I'm thrilled you liked it, darling! And I don't know about more of this soon, because I don't like writing the boys when they're so damn unsympathetic, but almost certainly some time in the future. ♥
