the place is indeed lovely, and so are the terriers. they've figured out a way to open my door and come in uninvited when no one else is around. I don't mind, though. my only complaint is the cold, with single-glazed windows, and all. but it is much warmer with a terrier in your lap.
oh my autumn has been lovely, if busy. I've made friends with very wonderful people from my department, whom I only passed in the hallways before. and I've been handing assignments in at the last possible second, as I always do, and read a lot and yet too little, and in the midst of the worst essay period, I took an escapade to London to hear Vienna Teng live, which was absolutely lovely even if my bus (and as a result, I) was terribly late. the lateness caused me to make friends with the amazing person sitting next to me, though, so the universe is still kinder than I deserve.
oh yes! she is so lovely! have you listened to her latest album? as a fellow nerd, I love the fact that she was absolutely thrilled about topics like sustainability (apparently did her master's in that?), and venn diagrams and xenomelia, and has written songs about those. (also, some of the songs on the latest album have footnotes!!) also, she explained very beautifully why she released her latest album under a creative commons licence. after having loved her music for nearly a decade, I came to appreciate her all the more after that concert.
at the moment, most of the things I read are uni things, so it's articles about Japanese cinema and African cinemas as well as cultural policy at the moment (one of the most striking things I came across was a brief mention in a film about Japanese gangster films, of how legal punishments are merely a lawful form of revenge). as well as things for my dissertation, so fairytales and queer theory - a rather lovely combination, I must say. but when I can spend time with other books, I'm reading
