The weekend of Oct 26-28 was one of the most memorable of my life.
Anyone who knows me knows I love The Office. Over last weekend, I fell even more in love with the show.
Friday
Jessica, Larissa and I set off for Scranton at about 8 am. It was a very, very long trip. I had never been to Pennsylvania before, and had no idea how beautiful it is. There were lots of pretty hills along the way. I tried to take pictures out the car window of the landscape, but I couldn't
capture the beauty.
As we got closer, we started passing lots of signs of Scranton. I tried to take pictures of
every one that I spotted .
Once in Scranton, we checked into the
Hilton, registered, and ate dinner. We missed the kickoff event, but it doesn't seem like it was a big deal anyway. After dinner, we tried to find the college party, but it turned out it was canceled due to rain, so we hung around the
Radish Inn instead. We spotted a
limo, a few minutes later a big hunk of the cast walked out and got in. It was our first sighting! So cool. While we were driving around later that night, we saw the limo again, and followed it, but got the feeling the cast had already been dropped off.
After this, we went to
Poor Richards and
Alfredo's Pizza cafe. The pizza was awesome! We tried going to a popular bar there, The Bog, but it was too crowded. We found out the next day that Ed Helms, Craig Robinson, and Brian Baumgartner
were there! Stupid us!
This album
here contains the pictures I took Friday.
Saturday
It was so exciting to wake up this morning, because I knew this was the day during which I would see the most Office people. The only bad part of the morning was that it was raining pretty hard. Jessica got in line to get an autograph, and I went in search of the
ribbon cutting. I finally found it, and it was amazing. Ed Helms sang "Take a Chance on Me" to Angela; it was such a wonderful start to the day!
Next I went back over to the autograph area where I met
Oscar,
Angela and Ed Helms. It was amazing. I didn't really get to talk to Oscar, but I talked to Angela and Ed for a bit. Angela asked me if I'm a fan of Dwight/Angela or Andy/Angela. I, of course, said Dwight/Angela, which made Ed boo. I also told Ed that his singing makes me really, really happy. I felt silly, but hey, at least I didn't pass out!
I met up with Jessica and Larissa and we went over to the
Mall at Steamtown. There were
lots of cardboard cutouts around the mall. There was also a
stockholders meeting that was pretty lame.
Here's some photos of the beginning of the day.
On our way to the cast q&a,
The Scrantones performed with some of the cast members. It was really fun. On the way from this concert to the q&a, I was talking on my phone. Some police started yelling at me, I looked over, and Phyllis and Bob Vance were riding in a car, with their windows down, waving at me. It was so bizarre! I hardly had time to react!
One of the very best event of the weekend was the
cast Q&A. It started with them showing a blooper reel from the first four episodes, then they showed the video the folks in Scranton made, then the cast came out with Greg Daniels and talked with us 3,400 people there. This event was so awesome that I have two videos
here and
here. NBC also posted the entire event
here.
After the q&a, we ate at
Farley's, which was terrible. For some reason, there were hardly any people working. It took nearly two hours to get our food, which would have been understandable if the place was packed, but there were hardly any customers let in. They were actually turning people away!
We wandered over to the
Scrantones night concert after dinner. This was an incredible event. The Scrantones played the music, while the cast members
Kate, Creed, Stanley, Ed, Melora, Craig, and
Brian got up on stage to sing. I loved the end when they played the theme song. All the cast got on stage, jumping up and down. For some reason, not a lot of people showed up to this event. They really missed out! Pictures
here. After the show I
met Melora Hardin. She was so nice!
That night, the girls and I went
bar hopping. Unfortunately we didn't spot any of The Office people, but we still had fun wandering around Scranton.
Sunday
First, we packed up the car, then went to the Bloggers Breakfast. I met Matt of the
That's What She Said podcast and
Jennie Tan, of my absolute favorite office fan site,
officetally!
Brian Baumgartner and
Bobby Ray Shafer spoke. I heard Kate Flannery and Andy Buckley were there as well, I didn't stay long enough, because we wanted to get over to the Writer's Block session so we could get in line for a good seat.
The
Writer's Block was awesome. It started out with an
intro video (that video isn't mine) and then went on for an hour and a half, discussing the show with the writers. My videos are
here and
here. At the end of this event, we got to see the first act of this week's Office episode, Branch Wars. It was super funny. It was so cool to sit in a room and watch this WITH some of the people who make the show! It felt unreal.
Our last part of the weekend was stopping to eat at
Cooper's. It was such a bizarre place, but cool. I also ran into Tanster again. It was so weird to be in a place that is so often mentioned on my favorite show, running into a person who runs the site to which I am addicted!
Our trip home was long and hard. (That's what she said) Actually it wasn't hard. I took a nap, then worked on editing together my videos until my mac died.
Here's all of my photos from the whole weekend.
I'm already hearing rumors that many people want another convention next year, and all I can say is I'll be there! There ain't no party like a Scranton Party cuz a Scranton party don't stop!
