CHARACTER INFORMATION
NAME: France [Francois Bonnefois, but for the sake of Gender bending, Marianne-Sophie Bonnefois]
CANON: Axis Powers Hetalia
CANON REFERENCE:
Male, canon version and
Nyotalia info.
AGE: 27
GENDER: Female, gender swapping the traditional Male France.
TENURE: 2 years
SUBJECT/POSITION: Home Economics, (cooking and textiles). She can teach any level needed, but it would be safer to put her with the higher grades as she has HIGH expectations and most likely difficult classes. Secondary teaching subject could be Dance. Again, safer with higher grades due to her strict and slightly sensual nature.
RESIDENCE: Academy, with a weekend cottage, courtesy of Grandmere.
APPEARANCE: Standing at about 5 foot 5, she uses her powers of snobbery and intimidation to appear taller. And small heels. She’s slender with slight curves of the hips and relatively large breasts. She has mousy brown hair that goes from dark in the winter, to an almost blondish brown colour in the summer (excuses for icons). She doesn’t like to colour her hair and takes very good care of it, leaving it soft and shiny. He eyes are a dark, greyish blue. It is always tied back in a loose French knot.
She is beautiful and elegant (sometimes), and she knows it, which gives her the sort of confidence that she carries well.
PERSONALITY: Marie was in training to become a socialite. She was taught that manners can be genuine or full of distaste and threat. A smile can mean many things. So she will always do her best to be ‘polite’. However, if she knows she can, she’ll boss you around. She has had, in her opinion, an important and hard life and that brings her slightly above the riff-raff. However, she respects anyone who can catch her interest with any means at all, be it intelligence or silly little tricks.
Underneath a cool, snobby exterior, she is a slightly vulnerable and hurt young woman. She needs constant praise and attention to feel like she’s worth something. She is also incredibly stubborn and unforgiving if she has been, in her opinion, treated badly.
She’s always wanted more than what she has. If she gets the blue mug, she wants the green. She needs goals and things to aim for, even little ones, though she’s quite forgotten who she needs to prove herself to and why.
She can be cruel and will use people for her own gains, but that’s life. She has been used (very rarely and she’ll argue not at all) and she’s even had her heart broken. Self-preservation is the most important thing. That and a little fun.
As a teacher she can be incredibly strict and even mean on occasion, but she knows what’s she’s doing. If she loses her temper in a way she feels was unnecessary, she’s not above apologising. She has an eye for beauty and talent and will encourage it more in the students who don’t realise they have it. She likes the idea of having siblings and sometimes crosses the line, trying to achieve this sort of relationship with students.
Generally she puts on a mask without realising it and takes it off only in the comfort of her grandmere’s cottage or, very rarely, if she manages to become comfortable around somebody. Which she really tries not to. She’d rather be the one to leave than be left.
She’s stubborn and if she knows a student speaks French, that is the language she’ll use. And she tries to teach ALL students instructions in French, claiming it makes life easier for her. But in truth, she thinks it’s the better language.
COMPUTER APTITUDE: Se can log into things like facebook now and read messages. In other words, she can work the basics of a computer, but nothing more than that. She uses her smile, cleavage and/or food to make people do anything else she needs.
AU HISTORY: Marie-Sophie, Fifi to family who don’t mind being punched, was born to a very wealthy family. Her father, whose line is rumoured to be of illegitimately royal stock, works as an Ambassador for France. Her mother is a fashion designer .
Marie’s parents decided from the beginning that they would not abandon any children they had and leave them with nannies. They should have thought a little harder. Both worked away from home once her mother’s fashion range took off just before she became pregnant. They decided that at least ONE parent should remain present in their child’s life or…visa versa. They decided that the father would be the better option as his work environment was a little more stable for a child to be around, though Marie certainly enjoyed being in the fashion world every chance she got.
She picked up a number of talents from her years of travelling and schooling, centring around classical education and upper class toffery, but with a splash of circus and street tricks. Always a curious child, she had a habit of escaping her mentors and minders and finding other places to observe and learn from. It was mostly down to boredom that she strayed from whatever she was supposed to be doing, but there was also the desire for some attention from people who actually mattered. Her parents. As loving as they were, their child was spoilt and always wanted MORE attention.
Once she hit 11, it was decided she had to settle and attended an all girl’s school in England where she’d train to become a socialite. It was too closed in and strict for such a spoilt girl and she soon began causing trouble. Sneaking out of school, bullying others and disobeying as many rules as she could, feeling abandoned by her parents.
At 15, after a rumour about her and a teacher getting closer than is appropriate, she was shipped off to Grandmere (an ex faculty member herself) on Île Baptiste where she attended Reims Academy, living off campus with her grandmother to keep her out of trouble. Or try. She still gained a reputation for having lovers and, once again, generally disobeying rules.
During a school trip to Switzerland, she made her escape, heading to London to start a modelling career. She was successful. Her stubborn nature and parents love allowed her to find a position with a woman her mother trusted. Marie had some experience from her time with her mother and was soon set, with the promise that she would train to take over her mother’s line of work.
However, the fashion world is a dangerous place for something as curious and playful as a girl like Marie. She soon fell into rougher crowds, losing weight and doing many, many things she shouldn’t be doing. At the head of it all was her lover, the previously trusted photographer. Marie was head over heels in love, but any affection returned wasn’t quite as sincere.
News of her daughter’s antics reached Marie’s mother and father and they soon dragged her out of that world. They paid untold amounts of money to keep stories from hitting the papers and, at a loss what to do with their child, they turned their backs. They gave her everything she wanted and it wasn’t enough, the only hope they saw was to take it all away.
They didn’t lock her up. They didn’t send her anywhere. They didn’t care anymore.
Completely alone and without any safety nets for the first time in her life she found herself going to a familiar place that had taken her in many times before when she was in trouble. Her aunt in Canada. She spent nearly a year there with more tough love from her family. Her aunt saw no sense in keeping Marie AWAY from society where she would become restless and bored and run away again. So she kept her in Toronto and in care of her young cousin Matthew. Through him, she began to learn responsibility and types of love that had nothing to do with selfishness.
She spent a year there sorting herself out until she was ready to return to Île Baptiste to beg forgiveness from her Grandmere. She wasn’t there for money. She had a little from her modelling days. She just wanted another chance. She attended the school for catch up lessons and spent her weekends looking after her grandmother. After proudly showing off her crepe making skills to her Grandmere, the old woman was delighted and encouraged her to take up cooking. Marie found something that gave her more pleasure than she ever could have expected. She could be artistic, it was strict, it gave a little something back to people she cared for. And, best of all, people praised her.
It also meant her thin frame grew out a little and she gained a powerful tool: large breasts.
Finishing her exams, she moved to Paris to attend a world renowned school of Culinary Arts. Her father refused to see her and moved away to their summer home until she’d left the city.
Marie returned to the island to continue taking care of her grandmere until the old woman died, leaving her the cottage and one last desire for her granddaughter to settle down. Marie’s parents arrived for the funeral, happy to see how much she had grown and settled, but Marie refused to speak to them. She applied for a job at the school where she’d caused so much trouble and managed to talk her way in and has been teaching there for two years.
JUSTIFICATION: In canon France is seen as one of the older nations and acting as a big brother. I think being a teacher gives a little more freedom to her character. Plus it means we skip her being a TERRIBLE student and causing so much trouble. Now she’s just a really…..not terrible, but controversial teacher who causes less trouble. She’ll undoubtedly get in trouble for making students cry, but she’ll claim if they want to be good cooks or designers, they have to get used to the pressure. She can have a very maternal streak to her and, as in canon, has a desire to look after people. Though hopefully in a less pervy way than the male France would have.
She is more than capable of being an authoritative figure; she has a very high opinion of herself. She’s good at what she does, she can control a class.
She would be a suitable candidate for Home Ec given her background. She would have passed with flying colours at her cookery school and has plenty of experience with textiles from working with her mother. During her time looking after her grandmother, she worked as a pastry chef in the village.
She also would have been the member of extracurricular activities at school that involved fashion and, in her second time at the school, cooking.
