Hello, and thank you for volunteering to create a gift for the Fic Corner exchange. I'm delighted that we share a love of children's literature and hope that you have fun creating a gift for me.
Don't tell anyone, but the sad truth is that I am super-easy. :) Write a story that you enjoy writing and I'm sure I'll love it and enjoy reading it as long as you steer clear of my handful of do-not-wants. In an effort to help, I'll tell you my general likes/dislikes and also give a few prompts for the requested fandoms.
But above all, have fun. If you find that the suggestions feel like a burden, then ignore them.
I like...
angst, UST, longing looks, long-repressed feelings that explode one day, kid fic, roads not taken in canon, zombies, wacky road trips, old friends, handsome strangers, ghost stories, crazy decisions that are right even though they seem so very wrong, 2nd person (you) narratives, porn that reveals more than just naked bodies, unreliable narrators, opening your presents on Christmas Day rather than Christmas Eve, and long deep slow kisses that last three days.
I do not want..
passivity, first-person (I) narration, incest, non-con, non-canon slash, porn without plot, child death or previous injury (although clearly if you're writing something about Bridge to Terebithia, then you probably can't avoid this one), and misusing the words less and fewer.
Bridge to Terebithia - I loved this book when I was a kid and when I read it again as an adult. I haven't re-read it since becoming a parent, because I'm afraid it would break me. But the characters still resonate with me and almost live inside my head still. I'd love to re-vist them and see what they're up to. Maybe Jessie is an adult now and has a child on the way. Does his wife know about Leslie? Or tell me about how Leslie's parents cope with her death. Or give me a story of Miss Edmunds' life. I'd be happy to get the chance to spend any time with any of these characters. (Clearly, you can't avoid child death if you write in this fandom, but please avoid adding any more child death into the mix than what's already in canon.)
Henry and Mudge - My son and I enjoy reading these books. He's also an only child. Tell me more about Henry and his relationship with Mudge. Or tell me about the sad inevitable day when Mudge dies. Or tell me about Henry's parents and why they only have one child.
Mr Putter and Tabby - Holy cow, I love Mr. Putter and Tabby and Mrs. Teaberry and her good dog Zeke. I love the amiable, companionable relationship between Mr. Putter and Mrs. Teaberry. I think it's great to see older adults living full lives of adventure. I'd be happy to see them have more adventures and would be interested in a wacky road trip or even a dark zombie story if you're inclined that way. I'd also love to know their back stories. (I've not read all the books yet, but it's interesting to me that there are never any kids in the books.)
