I really really wanted to do this tut with a Flicka image but no good quality original black and white pix could I find of her. So I opted for a marica tut. Hope you guys enjoy :) OH and icons are soon to come in a week or two - until finals are finished.

Adobe Photo Shop 7.0 tutorial (other programs may be applicable)
For the Color Balance layers make sure the "Preserve Luminosity" remains checked.
When it says "add mask to layer" you can click on the second button on the bottom of the layer palette (the white circle inside the gray rectangle - looks like a camera) while that particular layer is selected.
Okay, so now we start:
For Skin Color:
New Layer >> Color Balance
Midtones: +77... +37... -18
Shadows: +37... 0... 0
Add Mask to Layer
Use the brush to color out everything except her skin
make sure the brush color is black and not white.
For Hair Color:
Duplicate Base, Bring to top
New Layer >> Color Balance
Midtones: +100... +2... -59
Shadows: +5... +1... 0
Highlights: -9... 0... 0
Add Mask to Layer
Black brush (same as last instructions)
color out everything except her hair
For Couch Color:
Duplicate Base, Bring to top
New Layer >> Color Balance
Midtones: +47... +29... 0
Add Mask to Layer
Color out everything except the couch (duh) lol
For Dress Color:
Duplicate Base, Bring to top
New Layer >> Color Balance
Midtones: -57... +30... +62
Add Mask to Layer
Color out everything 'cept Dress
For Lip Color:
Duplicate Base, Bring to top
New Layer >> Color Balance
Midtones: +66... -26... -33
Add Mask to Layer
Color out everything 'cept lips
For Eye Color
Duplicate Base, Bring to top
New Layer >> Color Balance
Midtones: -11... +59... -5
Add Mask to Layer
Color out everything 'cept eyes
Make all the duplicates of the base invisible (on the layer palette: click on the eye to make it disappear). Do this to all the duplicates - except for the actual background base.
Now there should be a total of 7 visible layers and 5 invisible ones (12 total)
6 layers should have masks, blah blah blah :P
NOW.... Flatten Image.
New Fill Layer >> Solid Color
Fill layer with #FF0000
set to Soft Light, 100% opacity
New Fill Layer >> Solid Color
Fill layer with #00F6FF
set to Soft Light, 100% opacity
New Fill Layer >> Solid Color
Fill layer with #021616
set to Exclusion, 100% opacity
Duplicate New Base, Bring to top
Set to Screen, 81% opacity
New Fill Layer >> Solid Color (on top of screened)
Fill layer with #98ACBB set to Color Burn, 100% opacity.
Flatten Image.
Now just go in and touch up - blur out bad spots on skin and sharpen eyes, etc with the associated brushes. If you want to crop out - you can. If you want to add text or effect brushes you can << I do recommend using a new layer to do so - just incase you mess up ;) I like to go in a burn in the folds/curves of the skin...
If you want her vertical rather than horizontal: crop then I rotate the canvas (not the image itself). I liked it either way. I have the horizontal version though above.
NOTE: for the smoke effect I used the first brush under "Wet Media Brushes" then if you need to brighten it up do so - not too much though, I went for +10 on contrast only.
You're Done
