[Well.  She's had better ideas.  Though she can't quite remember having this one.  Oh well.

There's the odd sound of someone ...poking the journal, and flipping the pages back and forth.  And then shaking it.]

Huh.  ...ow.

[And then a voice full of curiosity.]

Is anyone actually there?

((ooc: anyone's welcome to talk to her, though she'll be ( Read more... )

[The morning has already gotten off to a terrible start, following Xion's death last evening. Brook was out on the roof, playing his violin.

The song was nearly at its end when he hears Katie, and what with the terrible luck his child CR can have at times, he is Pinged.]

...'Ow'? You haven't gone and hurt yourself have you, Katie-san? [If you tried flying, he swears-]

[What do you know, the book does talk back. She wasn't dreaming that part. And it addresses her by name.

Sort of.

Give her a moment, Brook. Her memory's a little hazy, and while some part of her says Yes, you've spoken to him before, the rest of her just ...gives a small squeak as she stares at the journal window.]

Are you a skeleton?

Oh yes, I've been a skeleton for quite some-

Haven't we had this conversation once before?

[AND THAT RESPONSE TO HIS QUESTION IS KICKING IN NOW WHUT.]

Sort of?!

[And now his panic is touching off her own for entirely different reasons :|]

I-I didn't do anything wrong! [PLZ DON'T SCREECH AT HER MR SKELETON OH GOD-- oh, wait. Have they had that conversation before?]

...Brook?

[And Katie's panic just stirs Brook's panic further. It's just so unlike how he's used to her acting that it's jarring. Distracted, he momentarily loses his grip on the violin and has to fumble to catch it.

It gives him enough time to actually think though, instead of just panicking back. He sets the violin down.]

Yes, that's me. I never said that you did anything wrong, Katie-san.

...Are you all right?

Um. [She still sounds a little nervous, although it's turning more and more to sheepishness as she speaks. You might be a skeleton, but you're friends. And besides, skeletons are cool anyway.]

Well. I think I fell.

You think you fell? [Did she or didn't she? Then again, Katie is a liar, so maybe that's her way of telling him...?]

Where from?

Up, silly. [And she giggles a little, before glancing away for a moment, eyes tracking something.]

Oh. I think I'm down a hole. Except holes don't usually have ladders. ... [And now she sounds excited.] Oh! Maybe it's a secret passage. Or a sewer.

[Just...don't ask why she sounds more excited about it being a sewer than a secret passage. :|]

You'll be terribly smelly if it is a sewer. [He sounds amused - this at least is more like the Katie he's used to. Somewhat.

But he has an easier way of getting his answer.] Care to do me a favor? Might you turn your journal the other way? I think that I should like to have a look at this secret passage.

Ummm. All right, then. [She'll do so. Uselessly at first, because she's holding the journal awkwardly and it's actually quite dark where she is. Except for that patch of morning sunlight over there, filtering down from above. Eventually though, she'll get the direction right on the window, showing a rope ladder a few feet away, leading up.

Well, clearly she can just climb out then. :|a]

It seems that you've stumbled into the tunnels. [He has to peer closely to make anything out... but it does. Which fits her description perfectly.

Brook is starting to get a cold feeling in the pit of his stomach. He reminds himself that he doesn't have one.]

I spy a rope ladder not too far from you. You're a rather good climber if I recall, so that shouldn't be too much trouble for you, I think.

[Dot dot dot. Here therein lies a short and doubtful pause.]

...okay.

If there is something else that's the matter, I wish you would just come out and say it, Katie-san. It would do wonders for my nerves.

Ah, even if I have no nerves to speak of. Yohohoho...

[Another pause. Just for the sake of your poor lack of heart. And then she says nervously:]

I don't think I can climb. Sorry.
