I am not sure about this, because I am too lazy to look it up, but the article may be misleading here: every year congress gets an AUTOMATIC pay raise. Meaning they don't have to vote. Meaning that voters can't get mad at them raising their pay whilst complaining about how the government is too big/too wasteful/whatever.
who voted in an automatic pay raise but congress itself? it happened in the late 80's/90's. and yes, voters can get mad. one of the people maddest about this is our very own voter/senator russ feingold, who has repeatedly urged congress to reject the raise.
yeah, seriously. and also, i love you leana for using the word "jerks," because the only other people i know who call people "jerks" are of my mom's generation, and it deserves to make a comeback.
