My excitement was so great upon digging a fresh, hundred-and-fifty-page copy of the New Yorker out of my mailbox this afternoon that I almost hung my head in shame from ever questioning whether it was worth twenty bucks

I'm grasping to remember if the New Yorker is a source of prime fictitious vignettes or well-researched, little-known truths.

tous les deux-- there's one short story and several lengthy articles per issue, with some "fall fiction" etc specials, where the balance is tilted somewhat from the normal.
