Flick hadn't been able to get out of the Academy on the exact day of Isabelle's birthday but one day late wasn't too bad, was it? Flick didn't think so. He hadn't even gone to New York to grab Isabelle, just texted her an address, a voucher for a portal and was now waiting for her. Isabelle had spent her birthday at the Institute, with her brothers. In fact, since the last Fandom visit, she'd been staying in New York a whole lot more than she had at her father's house in Alicante. Just to spend more time with her brothers. The ones that still remained.

Lately, she felt closer to Max when she was with Alec and Jace. And when they got together, they trained or patroled. And that suited her well, because she wanted to make him proud of her. Of all of them.

On her birthday, they'd slayed a sewer demon and gotten covered in blood and gunk, and she couldn't have been happier.

Except with Flick there with them.

And now it was the day after her birthday, and a portal flickered into existence not in Alicante or New York but here, in Connecticut, and dropped her off. In front of a treehouse.

It took a few seconds for her brain to parse the sight. Then she grinned, delighted.

"Oh good, you didn't get lost," Flick said, waving to her from the elevated porch. "I was beginning to worry that the portal had dropped you in New Jersey or something."

He grinned and gestured her to come on up since he was too lazy (and too much of a jerk) to come down to greet her.

"Ew," Isabelle called back, seeming more offended by that idea than she had by being covered in demon guts. She rolled her eyes and began making her way up, since it didn't look like he was coming down to her (the jerk). "I don't go to New Jersey. Not even by accident."

"Don't say that because your next mission's going to be one that takes you to Jersey and you're going to hate it and complain the entire time you're trying to kill demons," he called at her as she climbed the steps.
