There was a 'special' child today in HDU; cerebral palsy. She was all chubby and funny and laughing. She's one of only 2 kids I've seen so far to've managed to laugh on the HDU - I don't blame the others. Poor mum, though. She already has 6 other children - having around 7 children seems to be the norm here - and now she's told that this one will ( Read more... ) -

Boy with ?-rabies died last night.

Also, the little guy with HIV-nephropathy died yesterday. There was a huge scene in the ward - about 70-100 people inside the ward and 20 outside; women crying and throwing themselves on the ground. One of the Nairobian medical students told us this is how grief is expressed here.
It's all so sad!

The kid with HIV-kidney disease whom I wrote about a few updates ago? He's back on the normal ward from the HDU. This is not as good as it sounds as the reason he's out of HDU is that there's nothing more they can do for him.
