Tales from Outer Suburbia

My first and purest love is the turning of a page. The epitome of romance is the enjambment, the straddling of sentences, found at the end of each page. Each page is a verse, and whether known or new, there is an anticipation, a longing, in that brief pause between them. I discovered the book when I was four, and it is a love affair that has never ( Read more... )

Wow, how old-fashioned and charming!

This looks like it was a fun place to explore.

I wish I had more pictures of the exterior to work with. The area is a collection of small vintage stores like Polymath & Crust (typically merged as either a bookstore selling artwork, or a limited run cake shop that sells out at 2PM), small fashion boutiques, and cute little designer eateries. There was even one store that had independent designer nursery items built/restored from vintage. On the other side of the row are a bunch of design houses and artist lofts for really high end designers; the area isn't cheap.

Then you can hop into Chinatown proper and look at temples, or go to Maxwell Food Court which has some of the most famous hawker joints in the country.

I love how it is carved. You can see the evidence of it being done by hand. Each picture is actually sized larger, so if you open them in their own window, you can see greater detail. Like so.

Yeah, they all had that smell, and that museum atmosphere. It was really keen.

Looks like we're not doing MFC photos today. We're both too lazy. We'll do them eventually, though!

I've to say that your pictures and your descriptions perfectly show why books are a treasure! I especially like the skewered pages concept; I think this could be a good way to encourage students to read in schools because books can be too expensive or lengthy.

Up until I saw these pictures too...I thought that old shophouses in Singapore was a thing of the past. ): I hope these shops won't die out too quickly and it'll be even better if they could be considered as a heritage.
