There's also the I-don't-want-anyone-to-encourage-me-when-there's-no-chance-they'll-reciprocate-and-I-should-just-quietly-get-over-it-even-though-I-don't-think-I-can aspect (i.e., the attempt not to get your hopes up)... but mostly you're right.

by the way... my last crush is very very over.
i thought i would be sad, but i'm not.
