Seriously though, I always finished waaaay too early in math and english. Never got anything below an A in both classes, but I always forced myself to stay through at least 50% of the time, even if I finished in 25%, just because the teachers never let me out of the room. :P After a few years I learned to write a lot slower.

That reminds me of taking the SAT. I was on an English section, and I was working away, until I noticed people nearby were using calculators. I thought I was working on the wrong section and, given all the rules they gave for automatic disqualification, I figured I'd be in big trouble if they figured out I was working on the wrong section, even if I was doing so unintentionally. So I erased all of my answers and raised my hand to ask a proctor about it. Of course, the test's questions were distributed so that we would be working on different sections simultaneously. So I had to re-fill all of my answers ( ... )

i like this response. i'm trying to separate my ego from what should be some internal sense of what i'm good at from how i perform on this kind of jumping through hoops stuff. i think for a lot of us all of this gets jumbled together, but hopefully if i do fail i won't act like it's the end of the world.
