The man is keeping everyone down today. This is what sucks about living in a heavily populated civilization. While I was at work I heard one of the ladies down the hall talking to a representative from the hospital. The caller needed approval to operate on an individual's knee; the individual had an open worker's comp case, and could not be operated on without our say-so. The business office here, which normally handles such calls, is closed for the day. The lady down the hall told the caller, "I'm sorry but so-and-so is out today. I'll have to see what I can do and give you a call back."
I wondered if the individual waiting for approval was at the hospital, suffering in severe pain in the waiting room because the surgery had already been put off for too long. I wondered how much longer the individual would have to wait for the paper-shuffling to cease. Damn the man for not caring.
