Ok, so my browser doesn't support lj's autosave feature, but does support backspace = pressing the back button when you're trying to delete something.  Irritating ( Read more... )

Laughing out loud in my office. Not getting weird looks. I think they're used to me.

I would of course miss you millions, but at least you'd have double the excuses to visit scotland. I would of course invite you and Sonja, and possibly some others if they behave themselves for a wild weekend of fun in Glasgow (third best city in the UK!!!)

xx

p.s. I forgive you for the blasphemy, but you should watch out. Somewhere there's a lightning bolt with your name on it... :p

That is true. And the trains up from London seem to be a lot quicker than from Manchester, so the trip wouldn't be much longer :)

p.s. That's because Harry Potter and I are destined for each other!!

Yeah, that would be ace, thank you! I wandered round merchant city a bit, but mostly wasn't that taken. Didn't have that much time there though. J lives in Partick. I do love it, esp the farmers market. Hoping I might possibly be able to search from J's flat while she's travelling, unless Fiona is completely averse to the idea.

Do you know anything about Paisley? I've seen a couple of flats there which look nice and affordable, but if it's icky then I should probably avoid it.

What does liberal catholic mean?

Anyway, I would feel lax if I didn't recommend you try Orthodoxy. The reason I say this is because you say 'preferably episcopalian, though I'm flexible', as if the Church is something that can be picked and chosen. If you truly are at that stage, then I suggest Orthodoxy; this is due to the fact that other churches all schismed from Orthodoxy (the Pope was the first Protestant) and my opinion that the branch theory (of all churches being equal inheritorsof the tradition and the background to Open Communion) has been invented to justify continuing apostasy and schism.

In Manchester I go to St. Aidan's, it's fantastic. Even if you aren't looking for answers, since I've visited Platt so often I'd like to invite you.

PS

"Moving church is the scariest thing about leaving a place."

One reason I love being Orthodox... even in Hong Kong, I never had this worry. Part of my dislike of the idea of working in the Chinese Mainland is that the Orthodox aren't allowed to worship there (though I believe there are some underground cells).

But you don't know people there. When I leave Platt I'll be leaving family. I know it's just to meet others I don't know yet, but getting to know people, to have that kind of fellowship with people takes time and hard work. If it was just about the style of church or whatever that wouldn't be an issue - there are anglicans all over the world.

By that I guess I mean catholic worship traditions and liberal theology.

My reason for wanting to go to an episcopal church is almost entirely about the style of worship and the liturgy Also I have a little bit of a bishop crush on Dr Williams. :) If I don't find somewhere that fits I'll happily relinquish that desire. So long as it's between places which preach the gospel, why not pick and choose where to go?

I still want to come to church with you though. We've got two months. When's good for you?

I can point you in the direction of a couple of people who live/lived in Glasgow and who were Plattites, if you like?

That could be helpful. Should chat to Jude too, probably. She was at uni there.
