er, I think you took my comment a little too literally.
Flickr is not the land of corporate drones. PHP is not my favorite language, and I think SQL's best days are behind it, but the people who built this site are extraordinarily skilled, especially at using PHP and MySQL's strengths for scaling to an outlandish degree. I've been doing this for years and I learn something new every day.
sorry, i didn't mean that. the way i understood your comment was that you are working with php and sql because the code was written back in the day when those were the right technologies to use. on the other hand, in a startup, you're starting from scratch so you can always pick the flavor of the day. that's all i was referring to; no part of my comment was aimed at the people you work with. my apologies.

whatever you may think about the merits of entrepreneurship, you gotta admit that in a startup you don't have to deal with stupid shit like that.
