Today's adventure: an injection into my spinal column. This was done to treat the herniated disc between my L4 and L5 vertebra. The steroids are to take out the inflammation that is pressing on the nerve canal. We won't know if it works for 2-4 days, but the Doc also shot in some anesthetic, which gave me a couple of hours of pretty blessed ( Read more... )

Get well wishes banzai45 January 26 2010, 02:46:15 UTC
Our Monday was a lot better. Sure, Linda worked and I was running in circles in the Building. But upon further review, neither of those seem so bad. Hope you get well soon!

Oh, as a side note--we (Linda, Chris and I) were watching Mythbusters this evening as we ate dinner. :) Huzzah for geek TV!

Sure this was painful, but it does allow me to make a Spinal Tap joke! (Would this procedure technical be called a spinal tap?)

How did you get the herniated disc? I'm sorry you're going through this.

I don't think that this qualifies as a spinal tap, which I believe is sampling spinal fluid, usually to determine if there is spinal meningitis.

However, I assure you that the pain went up to 11 ...

I bet it was painful! I'm also betting you handled it better than I would have. When I was being prepped for my gallbladder surgery, a nurse was installing the I.V. through which I'd get my medication or whatever. I sharply drew in my breath as she did it because it hurt! I don't know if it was my body or she just wasn't as good as doing it as the other nurses, but it wasn't pleasant. And I'm guessing it was nowhere near as painful as what you went through.

Well, I did hold the assumed position - but I don't recommend trying it just to see how you would take it. Pain seeks each of us out in its own time and way - why go looking for it? :)

This is something I've never been through in my life. eilonwydreams and I were counting days, and I realized that I haven't been to work since January 14!

Thankfully, I've accumulated a LOT of sick leave over the years, so at least THAT isn't an issue.

Glad at least that's not a problem for you!

I still can't believe this accrual of PTO cr*p.

How are you doing?

They also use spinal taps to confirm MS diagnoses. Needless to say, I was pretty please when my neurologist decided she wasn't going to do one this past fall, but instead was going to wait to see if anything else happened to me. (Knock on wood, we're all good so far...)

Still, I *sort of* feel your pain. It sounds like you've been going through an awful lot lately. Is there anything I can do to help?

Just keep sending good wishes for now; I'm cautiously optimistic (although last time I felt this way I ended up in the hospital again with tachycardia. Grumble grumble.

I hope that you feel better soon - and kudos to you for the kickin' & taking names that you've been doing!
