Foods for the Week

We had turkey soup all last week, but other than some squirrelled-away gravy (ohhh yes gravy) we're pretty well done with Thanksgiving leftovers now. Last week was pretty simple: dal, no eggs (because of the turkey soup), stir-fried curried veggies (mostly cabbage and leeks), and random salads. New Mexico green chiles are the one true. You might find 'em in California as the Anaheim chile, which is the same cultivar, but they grow hotter in New Mexico thanks to weather conditions.

They freeze very well after roasting.

Hee, I didn't even know Anaheims were the same cultivar as the green chilis... they're soooo different here. They look outwardly the same but are quite mild. Delicious but quite another beast; I like them in quantity in some things that want pepper flavor but not a lot of heat. The dried green chiles aren't as good as roasted fresh/frozen ones, so I should find a good source for that for special occasions. (The dried green is actually tasty enough to hold its own in something like green chile stew.)
