I read a news article recently about a substitute teacher who showed "Brokeback Mountain" to a class of 6th graders. She closed the door and told them, "What happens in this class, stays in this class." Is that bird poop coming out of the birdie's butt?

Also, Sex Ed is something that is taught as early as 6th grade. I don't think that telling kids that to be attracted to anyone is a good idea until they bring it up.

What I do think is an issue is telling kids that being X,Y,orZ when it does come up *is* a problem, because that's where you can potentially start them on a path of having any number of psychological complexes whether it's that Girls suck at math or that boys should only like to hold hands with girls and not boys.

Our job as educators/role models is to be a facilitator and a responsible role model.

That teacher probably had good intentions, but really, that thing should be left up to those kids parents.
