I've had 3 people come out to me in my life.

All three said that they were particularly worried that I wouldn't want anything to do with them afterwards.

Do I come across as particularly bigoted or something? I mean I know I like offensive jokes and all, but what the hell?

Speaking as one of the people in question, and as a gay guy that spent 18 years in the closet. I can say this...
When we are looking at the world, we don't see what IS, we see what we Fear. If we see our friends making a funny, if slightly off color, joke, our Fears apply everything we know about a person, and try to figure out what they will think. I expected most of my friends to be bothered by the fact that I had lied for YEARS, and to be either be bothered by the "Icck" factor or some other slight. All those fears were inside my own skull. The general response of "Mmeeh, And?" showed me that the most tense and afraid person, the location were all the tension was siting in that exchange, was my SELF.

I guess it can take time for you to understand what it is going on inside your head.

You're a conservative. There's a party line in polarized American politics. You know, the old bullshit of "If you want to be called a blank, you have to believe this, this, AND this." So people are worried that you'll be not only financially conservative but socially conservative too. In other words, its the bullshit political atmosphere making people nervous.
