Just a random quote tonight, snagged from Tumblr:

I was raised Catholic, but I haven't practiced in a very long time. Early on, even as a child, a disapproved of how the Church treated women. The priests lived in the rectory with a cleaning woman, cook and secretary. The pastor drove a Cadillac. And of course there was the issue of drinking from golden chalices and wearing fancy garb at Mass. While the nuns all shared a beige, clunk station wagon, wore black always, , lived communally, and cleaned the church. Appalling, then and now.

I never really had issue with the teachings of Jesus -- love your neighbor as yourself, etc. I had an issue with how organized religions managed to bastardize that. It's always about power and money...

You're a recovering Catholic, then?...:P

The rampant misogyny and hypocrisy of the church is a whole another massive topic I don't even want to get started on. And of course I don't have an issue with the teachings of Jesus, in and of themselves; I have just become so accustomed to hypocrisy among the people who repeat those teachings (and to being looked down on by said people) that I automatically cringe at the name. In other words, Catholics ruined Jesus for me. Sad but true. *shrug* ;)
