The nice thing about knowing some of her classmates is how easy it makes it to get together for study sessions. And okay, back home, Olive wasn't really the kind to have those with her peers. The very few friends she had weren't exactly the studying kind, and the rare times Rhi came by with textbooks, they usually just wound up being something to ( Read more... )

Miranda is still rather new to the concept of studying with others. It is her second term at the island school and she is doing quite a bit better this time around, but it had been rather a shock to learn that working at her own pace and following her own lines of inquiry were not always looked on fondly. It hadn't been something that she had ever been made to deal with before.

Despite this small setback, she is quickly learning to appreciate the fun that can be had from going over homework and notes with a partner. It does make the hours pass a bit quicker and the work seem less like work. Waving merrily at Olive, she finishes straightening up her own various mess clearing a space for her friend to sit down.

"Twould seem that we are," she agrees with a nod of her head. "We should be able to make quite the progress, I do believe."

"Absolutely," Olive chirps, juggling her own mess to set everything down at once. She nearly winds up spilling the coffee, but she's gotten pretty good at the last-second catch over the last, oh, eighteen years, and it's not that long before she has her stack of books, plate of food and cups spread out and can take a seat. Group study may not be what she's used to, but it makes a nice change of pace now that she has people who actually want to do some studying to do it with. It keeps things exciting, sharing knowledge like this, and besides, literature's a lot easier out loud and shared.

"Okay, so I have the study questions in here somewhere... How's it going? Good day?"

Her eyes widen, her hand reaches out as she goes to keep the coffee from spilling even though it never does. Hastening from her seat she does what she can to arrange things so that it should not risk happening again. Coffee had been such a strange and bitter thing when she had first tasted it, but now she does enjoy it greatly. It is a shared camaraderie amongst those who drink it and while she does not drink as much as others, she has noticed an increase in her consumption.

Returning to her seat, she looks at the work spread out in front of her. "It is fine, a productive day is being had. But I do believe the drudgery and morale has improved now that you have come," she complements with a smile, turning in her seat to face Olive fully. "And now tell me, how has thine day been? Has it fared well?"

"Yeah, not bad," Olive says, finally tugging the sheet of study questions free. It's still really weird to realize that their teacher is Anne of Green Gables, and also kind of ironic, given that she's such a cornerstone of Canadian literature teaching them American lit, but Anne is a sweet and interesting teacher, so she can't complain. "I mean, things are crazy. I definitely need to, uh, cut back on the courses next semester, but... I really like all my classes. So that helps."
