just wondering...

do you scrutinise when you read?

i used to read self-help/motivational/spiritual advice books like gibran's the prophet but i end up asking myself 'why?', 'surely this cannot be all there is to it?' and 'are there any examples?' after reading each sentence and i decided that raeding such texts arent worthwhile after all.

(that's why i turn to philosophy, where they spend chapters and books explaining why)

i mean...surely nto everything is intuitively true?

yeah i do scrutinise what i read. sometimes i don't agree with what the text says, however i find that most of the ideas in this book make sense to me, and i think these ideas are rather true, to me at least. actually i dont think this is a self-help/motivational/spiritual advice book. it's classified under philosophy, and it does spend a considerable number of pages expanding upon each of the ideas, raising examples and arguing for the statements.
