I might have a bash at this too... I haven't finished the 100 things but what the hell :)

I thought Penelope Weaving was great, even though Kate onscreen does nothing for me (I love the idea of Kate, my dislike comes straight from the hopelessly bad actress) you fleshed her out into someone I could care about (and made me think for the first time about her view of Peter... and the while S1 arc)

And I adore your June in Keep you memories, but then I always adore your June :)

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeee oh I'm so glad you liked it!!! :D

I think the whole Kate storyline would have been improved by better acting and better writing, definitely. (2.16 did nothing to resolve that storyline and told us nothing we hadn't learned already in 2.09 ( ... )

Oh I have my minor characters too (Jarriere, the one-episode darling in B7, and in Stargate SG1 my absolute favourite character was in three before being killed off by the hero :)

I do absolute feel Neal's love for her (Matt Bomer is brilliant, could make you believe his chemistry with a blcok of wood) and I think it's that I love... mirrored as it is in the love he more slowly but definitely learns for Peter (I loved that scene in your story where Kate and Mozzie canNOT understand why, when he escaped the courthouse, he went straight to Peter - to the TV viewer it was obvious but as you made clear, Kate and Mozzie didn't know...)

I have this idea about writing Kate as a ghost... which would solve my problems with the acting, methinks :)

That scene was fun to write - one of my favorite parts of the story was just how different canon events look through Kate's eyes. To the viewer the friendship and trust between Neal and Peter is clearly strong and important, but Kate (and Moz) don't see everything we do. In her eyes Peter is always going to be the guy who arrested Neal, and that makes them automatically enemies.

And I would LOVE to read ghost!Kate fic from you! :)

Penelope Weaving

*is smug*

If it isn't the best thing you wrote, that's because you also wrote "I Still Love Some One", (and also "And Fear Silence", but that was long ago and in another country) which, imo, would not have half the kick (for such a short piece) if you hadn't spent 78K establishing just how real a person Kate is, and why she is so deserving of Neal's adoration.

there is a crack in everything

What I love about this is that it is all about Neal/other people - and about Neal coming to grips with that. With the fact that he is vulnerable to other people - which not everyone on this show is.

Keep your memories (but keep your powder dry too)

June is cool. June is awesome. (See: "I Still Love Someone"). You should write more June. Esp because you write her as kind & wise and still a thief, still with her edges and the poison on the end of the hatpin in her hair.

You are awesome. Have I mentioned this lately? *g*

And so is June. Oh yes. (And I need to finish writing her Christmas story ...)

I didn't know you'd read the other one - I'm glad you liked it! :)

Peter is Neal's anchor because he reminds Neal of Neal's own morals when Neal forgets them.

That is so beautiful. I love your insights into Neal's character. I love it even more when even the chars don't realize them :-)

Just read 'Keep Your Memories' - it was such a joy to read. I really love how you flesh out June. She's so much more than what we see on screen.

I also love it when June and Mozzie go up against Peter to protect Neal. They have such a different outlook on things and they're on Neal's side in a way that Peter will never be (and probably doesn't want to be). Which is why I loved Neal and Mozzie's scheming in S3.

Oh, thank you so much! I'm so glad you liked it! I adore June, and she's so much fun to write. :)

She and Moz have a very different outlook on life and the universe and everything than Peter has, and while I think she's perceptive enough to realize Peter cares about Neal, she (and Moz) are never going to completely agree with Peter on what's best for Neal. And so there's always going to be some tension there.

What I love about June, though, is that she's really not trying to push Neal in one direction or the other. Whereas Peter and Mozzie both want to pull Neal toward their side of the law, June is the only one who wants Neal to make his own choice and is willing to accept him without judgment whatever side of the law he's on.

(re-posting from my account..)

You're right, I didn't think about that. I always grouped June on Neal's
'con' side. I suppose she and Ellen are the only ones who can accept Neal for whoever he decides to be.
