I think my favorite scene was the fake confession, where Neal is all how did that sound? and Moz is all ... sad and tragic?

When Neal said that, I also took it like Mozzie did, literally, not realizing he was already in 'con mode'.

Neal's little speech about how wearing the anklet feels normal, now.

Neal definitely did not mean this in the literal sense, and I think they were trying to ensure we get that when he said the anklet was a metaphor. I thought he was trying to calm Peter down, tell him he didn't intend to run, but I've also seen other opinions, so I guess he had a lot on his mind :-)

And if we're already talking about suspending disbelief - I cannot believe Peter handed Neal both anklets with a key, and then let him turn his back on him.

am I the only one who really really misses the dynamic of S1 and S2

Not at all! I've noticed that in my latest vids, and it's starting to drive me crazy. There was a lot more playfulness in S1 and S2, and that disappeared later on.

I wish someone had pointed out that Neal is ( ... )

Why not? If he put on the wrong one, they'd know by the signal - I suspect they'd already keyed the new anklet to Neal's location. (Although now that you've mentioned the new anklet, I wonder whether Moz would be able to hack it as well, even though it's "upgraded" - the basics will probably be the same).

Agreed. The playfullnes is one of the things that's so lovable about WC, but it's been sparse lately and there wasn't any in the season premiére. I really hope that they can bring it back!

(And good luck with your vids :) )

Hm.. you're right about the anklet. Still, Peter seems too trusting there. He realizes/suspects Neal has broken his anklet, and that he's 'catching' him again, so I wouldn't expect him to let his guard down.

ETA:

I'm just thinking about this again. I really loved S3 with both Peter and Neal trying to play both sides. It's just that it doesn't go well with playful. And also, I think Neal is growing up, and Peter expects more from him.

That's curious, because for me Season 3 didn't lose that charm and playfulness - that came in Season 4. I loved Season 3 as well - my most favorite is probably S2, but 1 and 3 are right behind it.

And also, I think Neal is growing up, and Peter expects more from him.

But I think this is where Peter and Neal will clash... and I don't think Peter's gonna win this one (I don't think he should). Neal might not go back to committing crimes for the money or the fun or whatever, but he'll always do what he has to to protect the people he loves, even if it's completely illegal.

What's more, we've seen Peter himself break the law for his loved ones, and repeatedly, so I find his stance on this a bit hypocritical.

I've been waiting for a fic that would connect "In the Wind" and "At What Price" from Peter's perspective and reconcile me with the latter episode (and Peter).

I do think Peter's decision is "good" for both of them. They have both lost perspective on what their work relationship should be. Peter has indeed lost perspective, crossing the line too easily and covering for Neal all the time. But Neal has lost perspective too. He is supposed to go straight and narrow, at least for the time being. And he is more and more crossing the line with Peter. They're encouraging each other, and it is not sane for any of them ( ... )

This is probably my favorite after "At What Price" reaction.

First off, thanks for pointing out all the beautiful moments between Neal and Moz. I've been hesitating whether or not to watch this episode again - it's an important one, but the ending killed any joy that I had for it. But you've reminded me of the moments I loved, so I'll watch it.

I think getting some distance from Neal is good for Peter. It's also good for Elizabeth, and there is nothing wrong with Peter prioritizing something other than Neal's best interest for once. Where Peter loses my sympathy is where he says he's doing this for Neal's own good ( ... )

if the truth became known, would anyone believe that Peter didn't know about it?

Oh boy. So much to fic about :-)

Great thoughts!

I got super sad tonight because I forgot that they changed the night of the show and it had been the thing getting me through the day. :(

Oh well, more time to ponder this episode.

On the subject of "For Neal's Own Good..." point (which is the only time I sort of have a different take than you and maybe some of it is wishful thinking, but let me have it-- I need to ~believe~) is that Peter is trying to rationalize to himself and also to Neal that it is a good idea. He's freaked about how hard it is to leave the team and especially Neal and he has to convince himself its for the greater good. Also, he knows he has crossed so very many lines and he has to think that he's not being a good role model and his ability to set boundaries are in question so he has to believe that Neal needs better? I just saw this all being about him ( ... )

Although - am I the only one who really really misses the dynamic of S1 and S2, where Peter knew exactly what Neal was up to, and why, and Neal knew that he knew what and why, and the two of them could talk about it?

Man, I miss that so much! :-(

(if ever - I'm not sure Neal will ever really trust Peter again, after this).

Mmm, except that I'd have said Peter would never trust Neal again after El's kidnapping and the truth about the Nazi loot came out. As far as Peter's concerned, Neal lied to his face for months, and yet... Their relationship is extraordinarily resilient. IJS.

and then ends with Peter ending their friendship and telling him he's no longer part of the family.

Wow, I totally didn't read that scene that way. I thought Peter was saying, "You are part of the family, and I care too much to be your handler or have anyone I know be your handler. I'm too invested to be sure I can toe the line." But he's still going to be the new handler's boss, and he's still going to be around. He ended with, "See you tomorrow," not " ( ... )
