This is making much more sense now I've actually read the first part! I loved this bit especially:

“What’s wrong with Europe? They kick ass” said Puck, most definitely not pouting.
“They kicked ass, Puck. In the 80s and 90s. Do you know what else kicked ass then? Shoulder-pads.”
Kurt kept eating in silence, while Puck looked at him, astonished.
“That’s all you’re gonna say?” Kurt looked at him, nonplussed.
“I think I made my point sufficiently.”

Haha, I love that part too (I'm so with Kurt, Europe is not something you wanna keep playing in your way to be a famous rockstar, Puck has to move on).

I have a major soft spot for Final Countdown, both other than that, I'm forced to agree with you. (The month that Five USA played FC during every single advert break was a very happy one for me)
