Okay, so this is probably a sensitive subject. And I probably shouldn't be writing about it at 4:30 in the morning. But I was just randomly able to articulate my feelings for the first time, and I wanted to get it down while I can explain what I mean and (hopefully) not sound like an asshole. I try and keep it down at least some extent while at shows -- I don't always succeed, as you've probably noticed, having stood in line with me. But coming from a guy who has been known to rather loudly discuss porn at Denny's while there are small children around, I feel like I don't do a terrible job of it. When I was talking to Max about it, I a) did not really discuss porn, and b) tried to not mention any names so that anyone who heard snatches of our conversation would not immediately know who/what we were talking about, c) discussed an AU, hopefully thereby making the characters less recognizable to anyone listening in

It fascinates me all the different ways people approach fandom. How some are very out there publicly and will talk about anything anywhere, others will be closeted fan-peoples, and then there are the people who tow the line in the middle.

I agree with you completely. Maybe it's the Southerner in me, too. I'm pretty private about fannish things in general. I'll flail about where I feel comfortable but it's usually not much in public (with one or two exceptions!).

I wish more fic writers were like you.
Mostly because I'm not a fan of 99.9% of it and I hate being around people who are and hearing about it. Every time I find a new person who love the band like I do it always turn into a graphic discussion of Brendon and Ryan that I don't particularly appreciate.
