Authors never mention the gut clenching fear when you writing a sorry that someone will get there first, write your idea and get it published

STOP THAT. There are no truly original ideas left / everything is derivative. And there are SO many books out there and so many more being written, you just can't afford to do this to yourself.
I don't know if you have something similar where you are, but here in the US, we have the Office of Copyright Registration. If you're that worried about it (and I sometimes am), hurry up and sketch out your rough draft and have it registered (or similar). This is what I did.
But ultimately - yeah, there are no truly original ideas. Someone can always look at something and if they try hard enough, they can find a way to say "so-and-so was just ripping off this other person's idea." You'll only sabotage your productivity by worrying over it.
And i know it's silly anyway because if there is a popular book people will go looking for similar ones, like with twilight and vampire books, so it can only help.
I wouldn't worry about it too much. Lots of stories have similar elements (settings, character professions, general themes) but are completely different in execution. It's the details that make stories special.
It might even be helpful to read stories that you think are similar to yours. It could help you see possible flaws and generate some new ideas by thinking, "Now, if I was them, I would do it this way..."
