Honestly, the backstory simply reinforces my earlier thoughts on Dumbledore. Yes, he's ultimately a good guy. And yet, he's pragmatic. You might try to call him amoral to some extent. He is not the saint people might wish him to be (either those in canon or out here).

I do think it was important for Harry's sake, very important. We can't see Harry properly develop and grow and mature without having seen it, I think (in canon, anyway).

Either way, I continue to mostly not like Dumbles, even though at the same time, I do.

I was actually thrilled when I learned Harry was going to die... and then... suspicion set in. Heh. Gosh, those wacky fandom theories keep cropping up at the strangest moments, huh?

Yeah, there was too much behind him to just say he was a totally good guy. I'm not entierly sure on my opinions of him though. Definitely a manipualtive bastard though.

They really do. Soomebody put it best though. Harry Potter; Like Jesus, sorta.

AHHH you're one of the first people on my flist to look at the book a little more seriously. You win. Especially since you're entirely right. ♥

I didn't like the epilogue, either, and chose to pretend it never existed. I love open-ended closures more than happily ever after ones. I understand why she wrote it, too, but it felt all wrong to me.

Harry:Ginny I try not to think of. I honestly think it's poorly written. Okay, maybe not poorly, but it feels like such a superficial thing, something almost entirely physical. She didn't give it much depth, and sadly, writing an pilogue stunts most fanfic writers in picturing their own "19 years later".

What you've said on Dumbledore's backstory is also true. It's a way to remind us of that, finding out the flaws in the people you've always admired, and a "betrayal" by them that is, in the end, not that much of a betrayal.

I needed to actually try and sort it out in my head. Thank you ♥

Mm, I reckon most of the writers will be doing the same. It closes off so many other options if you don't.

So do I, it feels like she needed to have a love story to have the happily ever after and it just doesn't work. It felt very contrived to me.

That was one of the not really necessary things, but I liked what it added. That's a better way of putting it ^.^

honseltly i'm still not sure. i have been putting off a re-read to hear what other people think. i fully enjoyed it of course. but most if not rather all of the death's in this one, i thought, she took the easy way out. rather than have to deal with ending every body's stories she just killed them. the most pointless and painful deaths to me were Hedwig and Dobby. just awful. and Fred, Tonks and Remus?! come on! and George's ear. i really don't even know what to say about that.
